Kelly Willis - Brennen Leigh - Melissa Carper

Sunday, April 21 - 4PM

For a change of pace, this weekend Bartlett Arboretum will not showcase one of the country’s top musical acts. We offer three.

Traditional country. Alternative. Roots Americana. New traditionalist. Whichever label works for you, Kelly Willis, Brennen Leigh and Melissa Carper each represent the very best on the current music scene.

Each woman primarily performs solo or with her own group, but the three divas decided to get together for just a handful of collaborative performances. And one of those special occasions happens right here in Belle Plaine.

Austin, Texas-based singer-songwriter Kelly Willis has established herself as a country and Americana artist who represents both the new traditionalist era and alt country.

Songwriter, guitar and mandolin player and singer Brennen Leigh is as renowned for her musicianship as for her writing. That’s saying a lot: Her songs have been recorded by many luminaries and her recent release, Obsessed with the West, was recorded with Asleep at the Wheel.

How about a bluegrass Billie Holiday? A country Janis Joplin? That’s Melissa Carper, a bass-player with songwriting chops to match Willis and Leigh, and whose current album, Daddy’s Country Gold, is drawing raves from the likes of NPR, Rolling Stone, and Folk Alley.

Any one of these women would be a musical highlight. Together - there’s no telling what magic may ensue. Come on out and be caught up in the spell.
